There is a quiet mystery in the form of an iris. This circular, hollow-form bowl is designed with a deliberate constraint: a narrow opening that guards a much larger truth. I named this piece “Secret Within” because the intricate inlay is physically larger than the aperture itself. It is a work that can never be fully seen from a single vantage point; the geometry remains, in part, a secret.
The Geometric Gereh Lineage
This pattern belongs to the Davazdah (Twelve) family of geometric designs. Specifically known as Gereh-e-Tond-e-Davazdah, this variation was historically used to adorn a safe located within the Shah Abdol-Azim Shrine in Tehran. The tiling of this pattern looks like below.
The curly maple exterior acts as a shimmering, light-filled veil, its natural chatoyancy shifting with every movement. This radiant shell serves as a deliberate contrast to the "Secret Within": a hidden heart of walnut. The dark, grounded clarity of the walnut inlay provides a structural gravity to the complex geometric lines tucked beneath the shoulder of the bowl.
