Composed of 144 individual segments, the architecture of this bowl is designed with a singular purpose: to act as a frame for the geometry it carries. Every structural choice was made to direct the eye toward the feature ring. By making the surrounding rings dramatically narrower, the vessel itself seems to recede, allowing the Gereh to be praised and appreciated as the true heart of the work.

It is not only the geometry that defines this piece, but the character of the material itself. The feature ring and the base are crafted from a vibrant curly maple that shimmers and shifts as it catches the light from different angles. This chatoyancy creates a sense of movement that contrasts with the dark, stable walnut segments. When viewed from above, the concentric rings act like a visual funnel, drawing the viewer's attention toward the massive, luminous piece of curly maple at the very bottom.

The Geometric Gereh Lineage

The pattern belongs to the eight (Hasht) family of geometry and is known as Kar-e-Hasht. This specific arrangement is part of the historical architectural legacy found within the Pavilion of Forty Columns, Chehel Sotoun, in Isfahan.
